Our
Story

After a tough 2020 in many ways, Seda and Mona, two friends, with one strong commonality, a love for animals, found their way to Mallorca. Soon they came across Josefinas Animal Refuge in Pollenca, a long-standing institution defending animal rights. Every abandoned animal is lucky to have found its way to her. Both quickly felt the healing calming energies at the refuge and seemingly found the right place at the right time. From there on the two spent most of their free mornings at the refuge, cleaning, organizing, and caring for the cats and dogs. It turned out to be the most peaceful but also exciting months of their lives so far. The more dedicated they became, the more other animal welfare advocates and founders of animal associations and sanctuaries on the island crossed their path, consequently developing a strong network and overview of the state of animal welfare on the island. They fostered stray kittens, helped rescue animals from bad conditions and found them loving homes. The feeling of profound joy, purpose, and determination these experience evoked was vast and hard to put into words. This is how the idea of House Of The Holy Paws grew in their minds. From Day One HOTHP is a heart project.

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve animal welfare in the community of Pollenca, Mallorca. We want to achieve this by building strong networks with local associations and public authorities. Our short-term goal is finding homes for abandoned animals, locally but also internationally – in strong collaboration with the long-standing institution of Refugio d’animals de Pollenca by Josefina. Our long-term goals are providing valuable information for residents and tourists on how to participate in supporting the welfare of local animals and in particular controlling the feline population growth in colonies throughout the whole area. Another goal is to get more local vets to participate in neutering street cats so that more people can support this mission. Our hope is to collaborate with the local authorities to participate and help with the crucial task of street cat neutering each year. We aim to raise awareness of animal welfare. Specifically, we hope to achieve a reduction of the common images of dogs on chains or those that are kept in tiny spaces, by suggesting small changes to their environment that can dramatically improve their wellbeing and make it appropriate to the animal‘s needs.

HOW DO WE THINK WE CAN ACHIEVE THIS

We envision to achieve this by setting up a digitalized colony register that stores information on their demographics (sex, neuter status, health, and responsible volunteers). We will present the comsmunity the numbers, strategy and advantages of our aims and goals.
